Clients often arrive asking which path is “better.” The useful question is which constraints you can live with.
Beamtenlaufbahn can offer long-horizon security and a clear Laufbahn structure, but eligibility, health requirements, and nationality rules still apply in many cases. Mobility between Länder is not automatic; transfer cultures differ. Tarifbeschäftigung under TVöD or TV-L may open doors faster for specialists from the free market, with clearer exit options if the fit is wrong — and less of the ceremonial permanence some people expect from “ÖD.”
